San Diego’s Best and Most Trusted Spinal Decompression Office
If you’re seeking relief from debilitating back pain, it’s crucial to understand the differences between spinal decompression therapies and the equipment and protocols used by various providers. At The Spinal Decompression & Chiropractic Center of San Diego, we pride ourselves on being a trusted leader in Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD), delivering exceptional results through advanced technology and individualized care.
Unfortunately, not all spinal decompression treatments are created equal. This article will help you understand what sets us apart and why choosing the right provider is critical for your health.
The Difference Between True Spinal Decompression and Traction
Many offices advertise spinal decompression therapy, but in reality, they may be using standard traction tables or inferior equipment. While these devices can reduce pressure in the spine to around +40 mmHg, they cannot create the negative pressure needed for true decompression.
Why Negative Pressure Matters:
- The DRX 9000, used exclusively at our office, creates negative pressure levels of up to -200 mmHg. This negative pressure allows herniated or bulging disc material to retract, relieving pressure on nerves and reducing pain.
- Negative pressure promotes spinal imbibition, a process that facilitates the flow of water, oxygen, and nutrients into the disc, supporting healing and recovery.
Without true negative pressure, patients may not achieve the full benefits of spinal decompression, leaving them frustrated and still in pain.
Why Protocols Are Just as Important as Equipment
Even with the best equipment, the success of spinal decompression therapy depends on the expertise of the provider and the protocols they use. At our office, we customize every treatment plan to address each patient’s specific needs. This includes:
- Thorough Evaluations: We perform comprehensive assessments to determine whether you’re a candidate for NSSD.
- Individualized Protocols: No two patients are treated the same. We tailor the machine settings, treatment duration, and complementary therapies to your condition.
- Combination of Passive and Active Therapies: While NSSD is highly effective, it’s only one part of the equation. We also incorporate active therapies, such as core stabilization exercises and posture training, to ensure long-term results.

Rosa Algravez, | Age 58 | Calexico, CA
From Calexico, California
Hi my name is Rosa Algravez. I have suffered from leg numbness and low back pain for 4 years. I haven’t been able to do groceries or even take baths without pain. I looked for relief with various doctors with no luck. I have done treatments ranging from chiropractic to acupuncture. My husband found Dr. Boelk in the newspaper and we decided since we had tried everything else that we were going to give this a try. After my first few treatments, I feel as though I have returned to 100%. Life for me is completely different. My husband and I have returned to enjoying life. We travel 300+ miles everyday from Calexico. I can do things now with little to no limitations. The staff makes you feel welcomed and it’s a very family environment. The payments are easy and I would recommend this to anyone suffering with low back pain. Thank You -Rosa Algravez, Age 58, Calexico, CA
From El Centro, California
Hi my name is Mercedes Bautista. I found out about this treatment on the internet and I came because I was searching for a doctor for my friend. I have always had low back problems, so Dr. Boelk suggested that I have an MRI done. I decided to go ahead and do it and what I found out was astonishing. Dr. Boelk told me I had a bulging disc and that my discs were dehydrated. I went home very surprised and even scared.
That night with my husband I cried. My husband and I both talked about it and decided that the finances were worth getting my back fixed. The next thing we had to figure out was how I was going to get here, because I live in El Centro.
So we decided we were going to rent a car and I travel here 4 times a week. The girls here are wonderful and very awesome. They make you feel like family, it’s an extremely relaxing environment. I feel better and I have recommended this treatment to my family and friends. Thank You !

Ira Smith, | Age 49 | Business Owner, Las Vegas, Nevada
From Las Vegas, Nevada
My name is Ira Smith. I live in Las Vegas and found out about Dr. Boelk’s program here in San Diego and decided to start treatments with him. I’ve had lower back problems since I was very young. I had aggravated my lower back pretty bad again and usually I could do exercises, chiropractic treatment, rest and this time those things would no longer relieve my pain. I would get the sciatic pain shooting down into my leg and foot and would be pretty bad.
I found out thru my MRI’s that Dr. Boelk went over with me that I had 5 protruding discs. I did not want to get surgery as I have heard and seen that they don’t always work very well at all. I am 2/3 of the way done with Dr. Boelk’s program and I have zero pain. I pretty much go thru my activities with no pain. As I follow the program it has been absolutely fantastic! I have been thru physical therapy, chiropractic programs, I went to the hospital and they told me I have 1 bad disc, but I found out I had 4 more bad discs as well. The treatment has relieved the pain and is not painful at all. This can be the starting point for anyone with back pain to get their life back.
This is the place to start. If your skeptical, what’s your health worth? The cost of this has been way less than the cost of all my other therapies that I have gone thru. This is less money than all those things, less pain and gives you a great quality of life. This is new and modern and it fixes the problem. Use Dr. Boelk’s program to change your life and it will change your life! This is the place to start. -Thank You

What You Can Do to Make an Informed Choice
When considering spinal decompression therapy, here are a few questions to ask:
- What equipment is used? Make sure the provider uses true decompression machines like the DRX 9000, not standard traction tables.
- What protocols are in place? Look for offices that offer individualized treatment plans rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
- Is active therapy included? Long-term success requires strengthening and stabilizing the spine through active rehabilitation.
By choosing a provider that prioritizes advanced technology, personalized care, and comprehensive treatment, you can increase your chances of achieving significant and lasting relief.

Guide to Selecting the Best Spinal Decompression Center
Choosing the right spinal decompression center is a crucial step toward finding relief from back and neck pain without surgery. Here are the key factors to consider, based on what you need to know to ensure you’re receiving the highest-quality care:
- Does the Office Specialize in Spinal Decompression?
- Many clinics offer spinal decompression as just one of many treatments they provide, but specialization matters. Effective spinal decompression requires focused expertise and daily application.
- At The Spinal Decompression & Chiropractic Center of San Diego, we specialize in Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD). We perform 40-50 decompression sessions every day and have over 20 years of experience with more than 50,000 sessions performed. Beware of clinics that treat only a handful of patients a day on decompression; true expertise comes from regular, focused practice.
- Are Treatments Performed by the Doctor or Staff?
- Spinal decompression is not a one-size-fits-all approach. The process requires individualized protocols based on the patient’s specific condition, and adjustments must be made during the treatment process.
- At our center, Dr. Cassidy Boelk DC, a Certified Spinal Decompression Doctor, personally performs every spinal decompression session. He carefully determines all settings and ensures treatments are tailored to each patient. Treatments should never be painful—our goal is for patients to feel relief and comfort during their sessions.
- Is the Doctor Certified?
- Certification indicates that the doctor has taken the time to learn, understand, and master the art and science of spinal decompression.
- Dr. Cassidy Boelk DC is a Certified Spinal Decompression Doctor, and his decades of experience allow him to refine protocols to achieve the best outcomes. Be cautious of offices where certification is absent or where decompression treatments are handled solely by staff without proper training.
- Does the Office Combine Active Therapy with Spinal Decompression?
- Passive therapy alone is not enough to provide long-term relief. While spinal decompression relieves pressure on the discs and nerves, active therapy is essential to stabilize the spine, strengthen core muscles, and address underlying imbalances.
- At our center, we combine spinal decompression with customized active therapy programs to prevent future issues and enhance recovery. Clinics that rely solely on passive decompression may not deliver the same high success rates as those that integrate active rehabilitation.
- Does the Office Have a Good Reputation?
- Look for consistent, positive feedback from patients about the doctor, staff, and overall care.
- Check reviews for mentions of the doctor’s compassion, expertise, and dedication to helping patients achieve their goals. At our center, patient care is our priority, and we pride ourselves on building trust and long-term relationships with those we serve.
- What Equipment Is Being Used?
- Not all decompression tables are created equal. For true spinal decompression to occur, the table must create negative intradiscal pressure to promote healing, rehydrate discs, and reduce herniations.
- We exclusively use DRX9000 machines, the most advanced spinal decompression systems available. With 7 DRX9000 machines (4 for the lower back and 3 for the neck), we ensure precise, customizable treatments tailored to each patient’s unique needs. Be cautious of clinics using inversion tables or basic traction devices that cannot create the same negative pressure or achieve the same results.
- How Much Experience Does the Office Have?
- When it comes to spinal decompression, experience matters. The more treatments performed, the greater the expertise and understanding of how to handle a wide range of conditions.
- With over 20 years of experience, our office has conducted more than 50,000 decompression sessions, refining our protocols to deliver exceptional results. Beware of newer clinics or those without a proven track record of success.
- Are They Focused on Patient-Centered Care?
- Choose a clinic where the doctor and staff prioritize your needs, focus on long-term solutions, and build trust through transparent communication.
- At our center, we prioritize reasonable fees, fewer initial visits, and treatments designed to deliver real results. Our patient-first approach ensures trust, rapport, and long-term success. Avoid clinics that pressure patients into excessive visits or focus solely on high-cost treatments rather than building lasting solutions.
