Neck pain is one of our specialties that we help with daily. We have performed over 25,000 treatments and have a very high success rate with neck pain.
Neck pain can be originating from a few key structures or a combination of those structures. Let's take a closer look.
1. Pain from the facet joints or simply "joints" of the neck. These are kind of like a piece to a puzzle, they should fit just right and when they do not have proper motion, then they can cause quite a bit of pain and discomfort.
2. Nerves - The spinal nerves can often get compressed and or "pinched" which can cause a severe, sharp, burning, shooting types of pain and numbness that is significant.
3. Spinal Discs- this is a very common source of pain. Conditions such as disc bulges, disc herniations, disc protrusions, degenerative disc disease can cause severe and intense neck pain.
4. Muscles- pain can arise from muscles that have been strained, pulled, stretched and in some cases, especially with car accidents, torn muscles.
The pain can also be a combination of some or all of the above. It is crucial that a proper examination be performed and in some case, x-rays and or MRIs to determine the source of the pain. All too often, we get patients into the office who have not been properly diagnosed, many of which have been treated with no results and are looking for answers.
Once the source of the pain is determined then the course of action needs to be implemented and done so with thought and not just to "try" something. I have seen thousands fo patients thru the years that told me they had went to see a doctor with their neck pain, get treated and the pain was either the same or worse. After further investigation, these patients did not have thorough examinations from the doctors rendering the treatment and the 3 key components of any successful treatment plan were missing.
Patients history, age, height, weight, severity of pain, life situation, work stress, family stress, body composition, fitness and activity levels are among a few of the important factors needed for great outcomes. Please be sure that whomever you decide to consult with regrading your neck pain, you are being examined thoroughly.
