Lower back pain can be a debilitating condition that not only affects you but your friends and family as well. It can cause you to loose income due to lost hours worked, productivity and fatigue. It can take away your ability to exercise and stay healthy and can dramatically affect your relationships with your friends and family. Typically most low back pain is going to be caused by a few options.
1. Joint Pain
2. Muscle Pain
3. Disc or nerve pain
In some cases, there will be all 3 of these components. It is crucial that you find out where the pain is coming form first, otherwise we will not know what treatment needs to be rendered. In my experience most of the patients that come to see me fall into option #3. They have a disc and or nerve pain issue that needs to be resolved. Usually these patients have already been thru the following treatments with no lasting relief:
-Pain Medications
-Physical Therapy
-Spinal Injections
None of these resolved the pain and the main reason is they are not treating the cause of the problem but rather the symptoms.
Possibly, the patient also tried chiropractic adjustments (which focus on the joints and not the disc, so this will not help and can even worsen the condition), massage therapy, acupuncture and or acupressure, cupping and a few other therapies which do not focus on the problem, which is the disc being compressed and pushing on the spinal nerve causing the pain. When the disc is compressed, it can no longer get water, oxygen and nutrients and inflammation around the disc stays in the are and causes an increase in the pain.
This leads the patient to more pain, frustration, money form missed work and or treatments that did not work and hopelessness.
Now we are down to 3 options
1. Live with the pain
2. Surgery - which sometimes can be necessary depending on the size of the disc that is compressed and the health of the patient. However, outcomes for long term pain releif are not great with surgery. This is from an article on www.Spine-Health.com:
Research suggests that surgery for sciatica may provide better reduction in pain and improvement in functional outcome for up to 1 year as compared to nonsurgical treatments. However, in the long term (4 to 10 years), the outcome for both approaches are usually similar.
3. NSSD, Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression aka Spinal Decompression - is a successful treatment proven highly effective and researched by Johns Hopkins, Stanford University and Mayo clinic among others to alleviate and treat the cause of the sciatica pain. It works by gently separating the spinal bones in the lower spine which allows the pressure to come off of the sciatic nerves thus allowing oxygen, water and nutrients back into the spinal disc and flushing out the inflammation within the area thus alleviating and treating the cause of the pain instead of only treating the symptoms.
If what you are doing is working, then keep doing it. However, if it is not, then you may want to consider a different approach.

"I came in with extreme back pain, resulting in days were it was difficult to get out of bed. There were moments where I would be walking and then my back would lock up. I thought it was something I have dealt with in the past but this last the entire month of July. I finally dedicated myself to finding the long term solution.
I came to Dr. Boelk unsure about the process, but after he identified exactly what my ailment was, I felt confident that this was the long term solution I was looking for.
I instantly felt better and Dr. Boelk kept encouraging me to trust the process and understand it will take time to feel 100%. I am now pain free and honestly feel stronger, even a little taller. I highly recommend you visit Dr. Boelk." - Ming T.

"Dr. Boelk & his staff are by far the BEST at spinal decompression. I walked into his office unable to sit to do my job, where I was having to lay each day & within a couple of weeks he helped me with being able to sit again. His attention to you & the way he will make you feel is unparalleled. First of all, he has suffered from some severe back issues, so his empathy is very high. Secondly, he is extremely caring & genuinely wants to help people. I've never worked with a doctor who has cared as much and made me feel like I was his only patient before. There would be 4 people there at the same time, and he still made me feel this way. I guess I just cannot thank him enough & cannot recommend him enough. He is an angel on earth. If you visit him, please listen to him & follow his instructions. He knows what's best for you. " - Erin T
