1. Are they being asked the right questions? - There is critical information that the patient can provide to the doctor but only if the doctor knows the correct questions to ask. Often I see new patients who inform me the doctor didnt really ask them anything, but just talked at them instead and told them what was wrong with them, treated them and they did not receive any benefit at all and were still in pain if not more pain after the treatment.

2. Is a proper examination being performed? - Most new patients inform me that they either did not receive any physical examination at al lor that the exam was extremely basic and consisted of the doctor touching the area of pain for a few seconds. There is critical information to be had with proper testing and knowing what to ask the patient to perform in order to see what causes the pain in order to correct the cause.

3. Proper diagnostic tests - Not in all cases do we need to have x-rays and or MRIs but there are certain cases that it is a must. Proper treatment can not take place without proper testing in these cases to confirm the diagnosis as well as help determine treatment protocols and duration. I get so many new patients who have not received proper testing in this area. Last night I had a new patient who has been suffering with severe low back pain and sciatica for over a year and no one has taken x-rays on her. We did last night and she has a 90% loss of her L5-S1 disc space in her lower back. Her pain is coming form her disc compression and a herniated disc and she has been being told she has a ligament and joint problem and no help after physical therapy, injections, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture and pain medications.
